Our Story

To understand Nutrilite, you need to know its origins. Founded by Carl Rehnborg in 1934, Nutrilite began after Rehnborg observed the detrimental effects of poor nutrition while in Shanghai and sought to create a balanced, plant-based vitamin and mineral product. Returning to the U.S., he set up a small laboratory on California’s Balboa Island. Over the next six years, Rehnborg conducted experiments with various plant varieties and developed a method to preserve their nutrients. His work led to a formulation made from alfalfa, watercress, and parsley, creating the first multivitamin/multimineral supplement sold in North America.

The Amway Connection

In 1972, Amway acquired Nutrilite, merging two pioneering forces in wellness and network marketing. Amway was founded in 1959 by friends Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel, who built the company from their basements into the world’s No. 1 network marketing company*.
